Pacers vs. Bucks Series Preview: Youth, Health, and Homecourt Favor Indiana

The 2025 NBA Playoffs kick off with an intriguing first-round Eastern Conference matchup between the Indiana Pacers and the Milwaukee Bucks. While Milwaukee boasts the superstar presence of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, Indiana comes into the series with momentum, health, and homecourt advantage—and that may be too much for the banged-up Bucks to overcome.

Why the Pacers Have the Edge

Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam headline a young, athletic Pacers squad that’s been gaining steam as the season progressed. Haliburton’s playmaking and shooting can pick apart any defense, and Siakam adds championship experience and two-way versatility. Surround that duo with a deep roster that includes Myles Turner, Bennedict Mathurin, and Andrew Nembhard, and this Pacers team has the tools to push the pace and keep the Bucks on their heels.

Indiana also enters the postseason with homecourt advantage, which could loom large in a series expected to go the distance. With the crowd behind them, the Pacers have every reason to believe they can hold serve and dictate the tone.

Milwaukee’s Injury Concerns

While the Bucks have arguably the best player in the series in Giannis Antetokounmpo, they’ve been anything but stable. Damian Lillard’s recent battle with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) caused concern and disrupted continuity. Though he’s been cleared and is expected to play, questions remain about his rhythm and overall effectiveness.

Outside of their stars, Milwaukee’s depth has been tested all season, and aging role players like Bobby Portis and Brook Lopez will need to step up in a big way to keep things close.

The Key to the Series: Containing Giannis

Everything hinges on Indiana’s ability to slow Giannis. That doesn’t mean stopping him—because that’s nearly impossible—but forcing tough shots, cutting off transition, and making him work on defense will be vital. Myles Turner’s rim protection and Siakam’s length should be central to the Pacers’ strategy.

If Indiana can keep Giannis from fully taking over the series—and Lillard isn’t in peak form (already ruled out for Game 1)—the Pacers should be in prime position to take control.

Prediction: Pacers Advance

The Bucks are battle-tested, but they’re also bruised. Indiana, on the other hand, is healthy, hungry, and playing with a chip on their shoulder. With Haliburton and Siakam leading the way and homecourt in their pocket, the Pacers are poised to make a statement.

Prediction: Pacers in 6.
