Through 16 games, the Athletics have proven themselves to be a tough out. They have played a very tough schedule so far, which accounts for their 6-10 record. However, they have wins against the Mets and Padres this year, as well as splitting a 4-game series with the Mariners on the road! Now, after a day off, they get to face the lowly White Sox. Believe it or not, the Athletics have been a tough lineup to handle this season. While some of that can be attributed to the stadium they play in, they still have 65 runs scored on the year, while the White Sox have scored just 50 runs! That’s the FEWEST in the American League and behind EVERYBODY IN BASEBALL outside of the pathetic Rockies. Southpaw Jeffrey Springs goes for the A’s today. He has struggled in 2 home starts but his BEST start of the year came on the road against the Mariners. The White Sox counter with Sean Burke, who’s been nothing short of AWFUL in his last 2 starts. He has a 6.08 ERA and has only lasted 13.1 innings in 3 starts. Incredibly, he’s given up 9 earned runs and 10 hits in just 7.1 innings pitched in those 2 starts. Burke doesn’t strikeout a lot of batters and the Athletics LOVE swinging the bat. This is a game where the A’s SHOULD score some runs. This game will likely come down to Springs and the bullpen. The A’s have struggled in the bullpen this year, but this is an EXCELLENT series for them to get right, and they ALL should be fresh coming into this game. If Brent Rooker, Lawrence Butler, and Shea Langeliers can get the offense going, Springs should bounce back and the Athletics back on track!
