The Reds have lost 4 straight games and 7 of their last 10. They lost the first 2 games of their series against the Marlins, and lost by 10 yesterday! Quite simply, they NEED a win. Fortunately for them, they have one of their best pitchers on the mound in southpaw Andrew Abbott. He’s been FANTASTIC this season, pitching to a 2.15 ERA and 1.09 WHIP entering tonight’s game. He was also just named to the All-Star Game! He’s been raging hot, despite being cooled off by the Phillies in his last start. Prior to that, he went 4 straight starts giving up 1 earned run or less! Can’t be much better than that. Sandy Alcantara, meanwhile, has been nothing short of DREADFUL this season. He’s given up 12 earned runs in his last 2 starts, has a 7.01 ERA and 1.44 WHIP this season, and has been incredibly awful on the road. How does a 9.95 ERA, .331 batting average against, and 1.89 WHIP sound? Yeah, bad! Manager Terry Francona KNOWS this is the spot his team needs a win. The Reds have the far better starting pitcher, better lineup, and are more desperate tonight. Don’t be surprised to see all of Cincinnati’s top relievers in this game to get them a win!
