The Braves couldn’t have started this season ANY WORSE at 0-7. They blew a 5-0 lead in their last game to the Dodgers. Now, they will start the long slog of trying to become the first team EVER to start 0-7 and make the playoffs. For them, it has to be one game at a time. Fortunately for them, they’re not playing the Padres or Dodgers. The Marlins are not a good team. The Marlins are going with youngster Max Meyer today, who REALLY struggled last year. In 11 games pitched, he pitched to an UGLY 5.68 ERA. He struggled pretty consistently at home and on the road, but was worse on the road. He pitched to a 6.00 ERA, .272 batting average against, and 1.50 WHIP. The Braves actually faced him twice last year, once in Miami and once in Atlanta. Meyer REALLY struggled in Atlanta, giving up 4 earned runs and 7 hits in just 5 innings of work. The Braves have a DEEP lineup despite early season struggles. Even without Ronald Acuna, guys like Austin Riley, Matt Olson, and Marcell Ozuna SHOULD be able to produce today. Coming off a rest day and getting ready for their home opener, manager Brian Snitker is going to do EVERYTHING he can to get the win today. The Braves turn to Spencer Schwellenbach tonight. He was very consistent for the Braves last year and became one of their more reliable pitchers as the Braves fought for a playoff berth. However, much like they did in their last game against the Dodgers, don’t be surprised to see the “A” bullpen today. Joe Jimenez, Pierce Johnson, Dylan Lee, and of course closer Raisel Iglesias can all make appearances today. So we HAVE TO HAMMER THIS because it’s all set up for a Braves win in their home opener!
