All of a sudden, the Yankees have lost 3 straight games. In fact, they didn’t even SCORE yesterday, being shutout against Tarik Skubal. The Yankees started 3-0 on the season but have since struggled to a 3-5 record. The Yankees NEED a bounce back performance and to get back on track. Fortunately, newly acquired Max Fried takes the ball for the Yankees. He’s gotten off to a good start in his Yankees career, posting a 2.61 ERA. He’s had a lot of baserunners against him in those 2 starts, surrendering 13 hits and 3 walks, but he’s limited the damage. Also working in the Yankees favor today is the fact that they have lost 3 straight games but have an off day tomorrow. The last thing manager Aaron Boone wants is to get swept by the Tigers and head into a day off losing 4 straight games. He’s going to utilize EVERYONE HE HAS TO in his bullpen today to get the job done. Jack Flaherty goes for the Tigers, and he is a very good pitcher. However, it’s worth noting the Yankees fared well against him when they faced him in the World Series last year. In 2 starts spanning 6.2 innings, he gave up 9 total hits and 6 earned runs! In his 2nd start he last just 1.1 innings! So the Yankees have shown they can score against him. The key will be pitching. If Fried can contain Detroit’s lineup, the Yankees SHOULD be able to score enough and utilize a good bullpen to avoid the sweep today in Detroit!
