The Padres sport one of the BEST lineups in baseball, and they come into today trying to keep their hopes of winning the National League West alive. They are in the top third in total runs in the National League, and average 4.5 runs per game over their last 30 games. Tonight they face righty Walker Buehler, who has been AWFUL this season! He has a 5.63 ERA and 1.58 WHIP on the season. In his last 7 starts, his WHIP jumps up to 1.65 and he’s going less than 5 innings per start. He’s just not pitching with a ton of confidence right now. He faced the Padres earlier this year and lasted just 3.1 innings while giving up 3 earned runs. The Dodgers ALSO used a lot premium bullpen arms last night, which means they may need to use secondary bullpen pitchers if Buehler doesn’t give them a ton of length. The bottom line is that the Padres have A TON of confidence at the plate and they can SMASH opposing pitchers when they’re on. They have power hitters like Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado AND elite contact hitters like Luis Arraez. Frankly, they may breakout in a MAJOR WAY with their lineup!
