The Yankees had an easy win yesterday against the Rays and now get set for the next round of the Subway Series against the Mets. Luis Gil makes his next start for the Yankees, and he’s coming off back-to-back quality starts, giving up 2 earned runs in 12.2 innings pitched against the Orioles and Red Sox. Despite his last 7 games overall not being good at all, Gil seems to have gotten back on track. The Yankees had a blowout win yesterday, so ALL of their premium bullpen arms should be available. The Mets, meanwhile, struggled against the Marlins this past weekend, and needed A TON of bullpen innings. They’ve struggled getting length from their starters all year. Just this past weekend, they had 1 starter go longer than 5 innings! The Yankees are more rested and didn’t have to travel after the series. Southpaw Jose Quintana has been good recently, but he still sports a 4.13 ERA on the year with a 4.79 road ERA and ugly 5.12 ERA at night! The Yankees have the lineup to get it done and enact some measure of revenge for losing both games against the Mets at Citi Field this year.

There may not be a single bigger surprise in baseball this year than southpaw Chris Sale. Sale enters play at 13-3 and with an incredible 2.70 ERA. His efforts during his age 35 season just might earn him a Cy Young award. He’s been excellent, and with all the injuries the Braves are suffering from offensively, they CERTAINLY need him! The Braves have lost 3 straight and 6 of their last 10 games. Injuries to Ronald Acuna Jr. and now Ozzie Albies has zapped the offense of MUCH needed firepower. However, this is still a team that’s holding the first Wild Card spot and is 30-20 at Truist Park this season. The Braves KNOW they need this one and the Reds haven’t even named a starter for the game yet! With their ace on the mound and facing a losing streak, the Braves will undoubtedly use ALL of their premium bullpen arms to try and lock this one down. The Braves have the veterans to get themselves back on track, and this is the PERFECT game to do it!
