“Quarterback”: If You Like the NFL, You MUST Watch this Show! 150 150 The Ultimate Lineup

The demand for content, and sports content in particular, has never been higher. We all know the NFL reigns supreme, so it was no surprise Netflix jumped at the chance to have this type of show for fans. It was produced in conjunction with NFL Films and Omaha Productions, which is Peyton Manning’s production company. It’s no surprise that a lifer like Peyton would be interested in helping to produce content like this. The show follows Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota as they progress through the 2022 season.

WARNING: Spoilers Ahead!

We all know how the season ends, with Mahomes and the Chiefs hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. Breaking news, in case anyone reading this doesn’t know: Mahomes is very, very good at football. Overcoming injury in the playoffs and balancing his family, he comes off as a true rockstar.

The season also quickly goes off the rails for the Falcons, and Mariota eventually gets benched for rookie Desmond Ridder. Mariota then chose to step away from the team and focus on his family. He also had a procedure done on his knee. There was quite the controversy with this, as in the show, it was perceived as Mariota sulking from his benching. As he tells it, the benching came at a time when his family was growing, and while it may have been poor timing, there was nothing malicious about his actions or his perceptions of the team. He seemed to understand that at 5-8 and out of the playoff chase, the Falcons needed to see what they had with Ridder.

However, the real star of the show is Kirk Cousins. Cousins and his family come off as regular people. They brag about shopping at Target and Sam’s Club. Kirk also brags that his wife, Julie, picks out the clothes he wears on gameday. Kirk Cousins may have made tens of millions of dollars throughout his career, but he does genuinely come off as a regular dude who just so happens to be a good NFL QB.

At the end of the day, if you like football, you’re going to love this docuseries. Unfortunately for us, some QBs like Justin Fields have reportedly turned down offers to be on Season 2 of the show. However, the fact that Season 2 has already been announced is a great sign! Now we just need a few QBs to stop being selfish and give us the content we deserve!
