PLAY OF THE DAY!
The Diamondbacks come into tonight scuffling a little bit, having lost 6 of their last 10 games, including last night to the Rockies. They come into play just 1 game up on the Mets for the 2nd Wild Card spot and 2 games up on the Braves. If they keep losing games, they may find themselves on the outside looking in! Southpaw Jordan Montgomery takes the ball tonight. To say his first season in Arizona has gone badly would be an understatement. He comes into play today with a 6.25 ERA and 1.64 WHIP! However, he went 3 scoreless innings in his last start vs the Texas Rangers, and his stats over his career show he just isn’t this bad. At some point, he WILL step up for the Diamondbacks. He’s a veteran pitcher who’s pitched in big games before! He faces a Rockies team that’s just DREADFUL. At 58-93, they have the 2nd worst record in baseball, ahead of only the historically inept White Sox. The Rockies can score runs at Coors Field, but over their last 30 games, they’re averaging JUST 3.87 runs per game! That’s BAD NEWS for Rockies starter Ryan Feltner. While he’s been better lately, he’s been AWFUL at home. He has a 6.25 ERA, .319 batting average against, and 1.58 WHIP at home! If Montgomery can keep Colorado’s WEAK lineup in check, Arizona SHOULD be able to pound some runs out against Feltner. After all, no team in baseball has scored more runs than them! This is a game the Diamondbacks NEED, and expect manager Corey Torey Lovullo to ACT LIKE IT!
